Gokyo Ri and Chola Pass

We start the Everest Circuit Trekking with an exciting flight into Lukla. We hike up to Namche Bazaar along the Dudh Koshi River. It is the unofficial Sherpa capital with legendary culture. Watch out for the Sherpa museum and monastery. Local market stalls are full of local products and Tibetan artifacts. We trek up the serene Gokyo next to the three beautiful blue glacial lakes. These breathtaking lakes are set among glistening, snow-capped peaks. No doubt an exciting and thoroughly rewarding experience.

We climb the Gokyo Ri for the crispy sunrise views of the Himalayas. Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu with Nagozumpa glacier on the horizon. It is Nepal's Longest and most massive glacier. Undoubtedly breathtaking Himalayan panorama from Gokyo Ri. Then we cross the challenging Chola Pass over 5400 m on our way to EBC. We witness the fabulous views as you descend from the Chola pass. The glistening pristine snowfields into a broad secluded valley.

Base Camp and Kalapathar on Chola Pass Trek

We feel the increasing thrill and anticipation of drawing closer to Mt. Everest. The highest mountain on earth is just ahead of us. We hike to Kalapathar for the best close-up view of the mighty Everest. We walk to the Everest base camp to leave a historical footprint. Truly a memorable experience and an outstanding achievement.

We descend to Pangboche, a settlement with the oldest monastery. Further, we hike to Namche via Thengboche monastery. It is a famous and ornately decorated monastery in Khumbu. Amazing trek of Gokyo and EBC

Mountain Monarch looked after us well from Start to finish. Can't fault them and would certainly use them again in future. Pradhip was very helpful with the organisation and booking. Everything went smoothly from the airport pickup to our stay in Kathmandu. The hotel was clean, in a good location and run by a friendly family. We opted for a private trek with our own guide and porters which proved to be the right decision. Our guide Ngima Sherpa was excellent. Great conversationist, helpful, reorganised our route when I got bad headaches at higher altitude, got us the best rooms and was generally good company and fun to be with. We ended up going up the valley to Gokyo, climbing Gokyp Ri but then skipping the Cho Lo pass as I had to get to a lower altitude till I felt better,so we walked back down the valley, cut across and went all the way up the Everest Valley to EBC ,then back down to Pangboche. It was great to be able to change things as we went along . We got back on track with the itinerary at Lobuche.I would thoroughly recommend going with mountain Monarch .

This is the company you want for trekking Nepal! Book with them!

Oh my gosh, where to begin! This is the company you want to use if you plan to hire a guide to trek in Nepal! We did the 3 Passes trek with them. My husband and I started talking to Pradip, the owner, the year before our trip. He was very responsive and answered all of our questions. He was even willing to modify a private trip to meet our schedule. The 3 Passes Trek itself is AMAZING! And much of our success was mainly due to our guide, Ram, and our two porters, Shapta and Bhupal. We selected this company because of their Responsible Trekking policy and their use of one porter for every client. Some companies overload their porters with 2+ people's load, which seemed excessive. They also are serious about their clients successfully navigating the altitude and go to great lengths to ensure acclimatization is slow and gradual. They also carried a full O2 tank for emergencies at higher altitudes. We didn't need it, but it was an example of their focus on safety. I didn't see any other guides doing this. When we arrived in Katmandu, Pradip's partner Subash was waiting for us and easy to find. Our trip included transfers to a local hotel, which was clean, had a good shower, and included a simple breakfast. Our service also included a guided city tour to 2 temples/stupas with an English-speaking guide and our 4-hour transfer to Ramechhap to catch our flight to Lukla the next day (also included). FYI - as of April 2023, no commercial flights were going from Katmandu to Lukla anymore. This may change in the future. But be prepared for a bumpy, early morning ride to Ramechhap and a shorter flight to Lukla. Once in Lukla, we were immediately greeted by our guides and porter, who were friendly and very patient. Although the porters hiked at their own pace and often were ahead of us to the villages, our guide, Ram, walked our pace the entire time and was extremely patient and encouraging over the more challenging sections. He was also the perfect combination of conversive-when-we-wanted-to-talk and respectful of the time we wanted to walk in silence and enjoy the view. The teahouses MM selected for us were beautiful, and the food was delicious. If you'd like more photos and our complete description and itinerary, please find me at Paradox Travel on Facebook or search for our travel blog by that name and sign up for when I post new reviews and posts. We plan to use MM again to trek the Annapurna area in 2025. Hire them! (and tip the guide and porters well! ) You won't be disappointed.

    Everest Base camp, Circuit Trek

Look no further for a trekking company to take you to Everest Base Camp or anywhere in the region! Mountain Monarch Adventure Co. is a trekker porter company, meaning their porters carry one duffel bag, not two. This company cares about its employees well being. I emailed the company numerous times months before my trek with questions, and Pradip, the owner, would always promptly respond. He met us when we arrived at our hotel in Kathmandu even though it was late after 830pm, later than expected. We were taken on a cultural tour the next day, which was very enlightening. Rom, our guide, was very friendly and informative. My trekking guide, Roshan, was always helpful, polite, and professional. This man encouraged me to eat after I got sick and lost my appetite for much of the trip. Every day he would tell me to eat more. He learned to use my Nikon camera and took photos of everything. He would give us information about the region as he was born and grew up in Lukla. On the way back down after EBC and the Gokyo lakes, when we had to go uphill, he carried my backpack, along with his, as I was becoming sicker from what I later found out to be from Covid. Also, he was waiting for me outside the Kathmandu airport for over 2 hours as my flight was delayed, and I had to get my visa inside and wait for my checked bag. After our trek and back in Kathmandu, He drove me to the Qatar airways building to reschedule my flight. He bought medicine, checked on me, and encouraged me when I was tired. I could go on and on. He became a friend, and we still communicate on Facebook. Look no further; this IS the ONLY trekking company to consider!"
