The aptly named Annapurna Sanctuary
trek is one of the scenic teahouses
trekking in Annapurna region. Annapurna
Base Camp - the massive south face
of Annapurna - Annapurna Sanctuary
– encompasses more than a
dozen peaks higher above 7000 meters
and numerous peaks over 6000 meters
within the span of 40 miles.
From the terraced farmland of
Pokhara valley we hike on good trails
through scattered settlements and
abundant forest, climbing gradually
onto a world of ice and snow. The
combination of traditional villages
and farmland set against the panorama
of high peaks beyond makes this
one of the most picturesque of treks.
Trekking along the Modi Khola we
gain height as the valley narrows
to a steep sided gorge until we
pass through the “gates”
of the Sanctuary to emerge into
its heart, a beautiful alpine amphitheatre
surrounded by 6000 meter snow-capped
mountains. The enormous south face
of Annapurna dominates the basin
and there are spectacular views
of Machapuchare. Annapurna Base
Camp set within the vast spectacular
natural amphitheatre of the Annapurna
Sanctuary – an unbelievably
spectaculars vista where we are
surrounded by fabulous, glistening
peaks – a truly unforgettable
scene.
