Annapurna Sanctuary Trek - two weeks adventure

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, popularly known as Annapurna Base Camp, is one of the best two weeks of hiking in Nepal. This journey explores the hidden alpine amphitheater of the base camp of Annapurna via Poon Hill. Trek to Annapurna Sanctuary trekking itinerary amid the Annapurna massif is graded as a moderate plus on its difficulty level. The hidden hiking routes map leads to the fabulous high mountains arena of Annapurna base camp. The trail ventures through various climatic conditions from subtropical to alpine with a  gradually ascending beautiful, varied landscape of cultivated terrace fields and lust forests of oaks, magnolia, and rhododendron trees. Thus, inevitably the vegetation changes accordingly, giving trekkers an incredible variety of flora and fauna. You will meet many different ethnic groups - it is like trekking through a live, open museum. In addition, you will experience some of Nepal's diverse but equally friendly people and cultures.

Poon Hill hike en route to Annapurna base camp

The early morning hike to Poon Hill (3230 meters) gives you the best panoramic sunrise view of the fabulous Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri ranges just next to you. This hike to Poon Hill also allows time for better acclimatization and extra exploration. The combination of tiny thatch-roofed villages set among the narrow terrace fields with the backdrop of stunning snow-capped mountain ranges makes this Annapurna Base camp with Poon Hill trek one of the most picturesque treks in the Himalayas.

Itinerary/Map of Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

We start this trek itinerary to the base camp of Annapurna from Pokhara, a beautiful lake city. First, we hike to Poon Hill, following the beautiful green Modi Khola valleys. The valley is surrounded by spectacular towering peaks and sheer high rock walls with gushing sparkling waterfalls tumbling down into the roaring river below. Next, we ascend to the fascinating Machhapuchhare Base Camp; beyond that, the valley widens as it reaches the lateral moraine of Annapurna south glacier. The mountain views are breathtaking from here. Hiumchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, and Macchapuchhare (Fishtail) complete a fabulous panorama. A further gradual 3 hours of the steady hiking route map, and you will reach the Base Camp of Annapurna. A vast, spectacular natural alpine amphitheater of the spellbound surrounding of the very sanctuary of Annapurnas. Breathtaking wonderland of glistering peaks, snowfields, and glaciers - an unforgettable Himalayan paradise.

In your ascent, we take a slow pace and minimize the elevation gain each day to avoid altitude sickness as you go higher and cover the distance on the way back; our  Annapurna sanctuary trek itinerary is designed based on the elevation map gain each day. Most of the day while hiking up to the base camp is 4 – 6 hours a day, while we cover relatively long distances on your way down with 6 – 8 hours of walks each day.

All Nepal trekking areas and climbing peaks need to obtain travel permits from the respective government authorities. We ensure you have all required travel documents, including a trekking permit from the Annapurna conservation area project ( ACAP). We drive 7 hours to Pokhara for the Annapurna Sanctuary trek witnessing the terrace fields and thundering rivers and spend overnight at a hotel in Lakeside. Early in the morning, we will take a short drive of an hour to start the trek with our trek crew.

Unfortunately, the leading grid electricity is not supplied in teahouses up in the mountains. Instead, they use solar panels for power generation depending on weather conditions. Currently, there are charging facilities for little electronic gadgets, power banks, Cameras, and mobile batteries in every teahouse with a specific cost of chagrining devices.

    Great experience!

Overall a great experience climbing to Annapurna Base Camp. Our Sherpa, Yam, was brilliant and went over and above to look after us when we suffered from altitude sickness. Trek itself had truly amazing views too!

    Amazing Trek

I had a brilliant time with MM on my first-ever trekking holiday. I appreciated being in a small group of two as it meant our plans were easily adapted to suit more of what we wanted along the way. CP was an excellent guide who looked after us significantly when my fellow trekker fell ill and was hugely entertaining, friendly, caring, and passionate about the trek, Nepal, and life itself! Just when I thought nothing could top our day at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), our last day during the Dashain festival was so beautiful that it caused a lump in my throat of gratitude and emotion, especially when we were playing on the festival swing with the children after walking through the beautiful paddy fields with the endless variety of pretty butterflies and dragonflies.

Prasun, our porter, was amazing; I wish I could have spoken Nepalese to him! In comparison with another tour company (compared notes with another group post-trek), ours was much better organized. The service was far better and more respectful with private transfers between KTM and Pokhara. I definitely recommend MM and would use them again.

    Wonderful Trip

It was a wonderful trip-will, never forget it, and we are so pleased we went to base camp. We were looked after and cared for; nothing was too much, and we were appreciative. Nepalese people are really kind and caring.

The food was always excellent, and the combination of guide and porter was exceptionally good-they. Both looked after us so well. So Pradip, we had a wonderful trip – well organized-were well-cared for-and, a trip we shall never forget. Thank you for that.
