Trip Overview

The Rupinala Pass Trek in the lower region of Gorkha is one of Nepal's most remote, adventurous, and off-the-beaten-path trekking routes. A dream Himalayan trip for adventurers interested in a camping-style experience full of raw Himalayan wilderness, untouched landscapes, unspoiled culture, and mind-blowing mountain views, reaching the highest point at 4,670 m above sea level, a manageable altitude at Rupinala Pass.

The Rupinala Pass Trekking is, of course, significantly less crowded than the popular Nepal treks like the Everest Base Camp Trek, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, and the Langtang Valley Trek; it observes even fewer trekkers than the high-altitude treks that are known as the best less-trodden ones, like the Annapurna Circuit Trek, the Manaslu Circuit Trek, and the Tsum Valley Trek. Into the restricted Manaslu Conservation Area, the hidden gem is calling you!

I.e., the Rupinala Pass Trek itinerary of 15 days officially begins on the 3rd day from Barpak to arrive at Sumbe Khadka after a drive from Kathmandu. Then, after you continue hiking through the lower valleys of the highly restricted Manaslu trekking and climbing region, which was opened for foreigners only in 1991. Each day, especially when accompanied by an experienced mountain guide and logistics is taken care of, is rewarding.

Serene trekking trails, epic mountain scenery from start to end, real encounters and connections with the Himalayan locals, and the main highlight, Rupinala Pass, ensuring a sense of both adventure and achievement—bookings are now at Mountain Monarch for the years 2026 and 2027. Premium services whenever available, our Rupinala Pass Trek cost is without any hidden costs and is focused on your safety, satisfaction, and well-being. Book now!

Additional Info

When is the best season for Rupinala Pass hiking in Nepal?

While manageable throughout the years, which we can arrange for you if you prefer, the best seasons, however, remain spring and autumn from March to May. These times of the year feature the most stable weather, moderate temperatures, clear skies, and, all combined, the safest high-altitude trekking and climbing conditions, including the Rupinala Pass Trekking of 15 days. Premonsoon and postmonsoon seasons.

That means both the chances of encountering heavy rain and snowfall like those during the summer (monsoon) and winter are extremely low. Rather, in the spring, you get to walk amidst the blooming landscapes, especially the fresh blooms of varieties of rhododendrons and other wildflowers. Likewise, two of the largest festivals in Nepal, Dashain and Tihar, coincide with the months of autumn and offer a greater chance for a more enhanced cultural experience.

What are food and accommodations like on the Rupinala Pass Trek Trail?

Though the Rupinala Pass trekking route may not be as established and well supported by several teahouses, lodges, and guest houses as the popular high-altitude treks in Nepal, and may be limited to teahouses, it ensures meals to keep you energised and provides a comfortable place to rest throughout the trip. Please note that, being one of the remote Himalayan adventures, modern amenities here are almost non-existent.

Often, teahouses consist of rooms with twin beds and simple bedding, including mattresses, blankets, and pillows. The menus also typically feature a mix of Nepalese and Tibetan dishes such as varieties of eggs, potatoes, Thukpa, Chapati, teas, coffees, and especially Dal Bhat Tarkari. A must-try Nepalese staple that comes with a heap of steamed rice, lentil soup, and seasonal vegetables. Hearty, refillable, budget-friendly, and also the healthiest choice.

Rupinala Pass Himalayan Trip Difficulty Level - Who can do this trek?

A perfect camping style trekking destination, far away from modern-day chaos and not heavily commercialized, the Rupinala Pass Hiking journey overall is regarded as strenuous in terms of difficulty. It means it is both physically and mentally demanding, best done by seasoned trekkers or after collecting some high-altitude trekking experience. Steep ascents, descents, and rocky trails in remote areas, never underestimate the Himalayas.

The higher you go, the less oxygen there is in the air, and the more notoriously unpredictable the Himalayan weather is. That is why it is a must that you also carry the right gear and equipment in addition to having prepared yourself for the inherent challenges that come with Himalayan adventures in Nepal. The Rupinala Pass itself is both the most rewarding and challenging section, and ensures you an unbeatable sense of adventure and achievement.

Do you need a special restricted area permit for the trek to Rupinala Pass?

Yes, since the Rupinala Pass Trekking Trails come under one of the highly restricted areas of Nepal, it is non-negotiable that you obtain the special restricted area permit (RAP) along with two others: the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card. As per the recent updates for restricted area trekking in Nepal, you may not need to be a group of at least two trekkers, but permits are still mandatory.

Further, all of these permits are available online as well. Or you can simply choose to purchase a comprehensive Rupinala Pass Trek package from licensed trek, travel, and climbing companies such as Mountain Monarch, and we take care of everything from logistics to permits. On booking with us, we not only make sure that you eat healthy and get a cozy place to rest, but we also obtain necessary permits for you even before the trip; everything is taken care of.

Must you hire a guide and porter for Rupinala Pass Trekking in Nepal?

Yes, it is still a legal mandate that for any sort of Himalayan trekking inside Nepal’s conservation, national park, and restricted area, such as the Manaslu Conservation Area, where the Rupinala Pass hike falls, your journey must be guided. You may choose to go solo, not join the fixed departure groups, or even have at least two trekkers, but it is a must that you are accompanied by registered local guides that we at Mountain Monarch also provide.

As per Porter, though they might not be legally mandatory, they do lift a significant weight from your shoulders, so they are strongly recommended. They are the real heroes of the Himalayas; guides lead the tough Himalayan trekking trails, share safety tips, and also provide immediate assistance in need, and porters aid you a lot to let you save both energy and time, ensuring a seamless Himalayan trip. Our Rupinala Pass Trekking package provides you with both.
