What makes the Annapurna Panorama Trekking to Ghorepani and Poon Hill special?

Relatively short, easily accessible, and budget-friendly trekking options to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek and the Annapurna Circuit Trek within the Annapurna Trekking Region of Nepal, the Annapurna Panorama Trek is famous for breathtaking Himalayan views. Under the country’s largest conservation area, the Annapurna Conservation Area, avoiding extreme altitudes is doable by anyone with reasonable fitness. Expect authentic Gurung and Magar cultural experiences.

While you hike to Poon Hill, the golden light falls over at least three of the 8,000 m peaks—Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu—along with neighboring mountain ranges. For someone seeking a rewarding adventure without committing to several weeks of high-altitude trekking, especially for individuals with a family consisting of first-timers, young lads, and aged members, trekking to Ghorepani and Poon Hill is a fantastic Himalayan trip.

Where is the Annapurna Panorama Hiking starting point?

As per the 9 days for Annapurna Panorama Trek itinerary, the hiking officially starts on the fourth day after a drive to Nayapul from Pokhara. Located at an elevation of 1,070 m/3,510 ft above sea level, Nayapul is a common trek starting point from which most of the short, long, and extensive expeditions to the Annapurna Himalayas take their initiation, including the Annapurna Dhaulagiri Trek, Annapurna Machhapuchhre Trek, and Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

Nayapul is a small town lying in easier accessibility from one of the major cities of Nepal, Pokhara, one and a half hours of driving away; its name translates to “Nayapul,” meaning “New Bridge.” For those embarking on Annapurna trekking routes, it helps you to cross the Modi Khola River and connects you to the serene world of lush valleys, forests, traditional villages with terraced farmlands, and stunning mountain views of the Annapurna Conservation Area from modern comforts.

Is the trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill safe for altitude?

Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a common phenomenon at 3,000 m above sea level in the Himalayas that can take a toll on anyone regardless of their fitness level, age, and experience. If not taken care of on time, then fatal conditions like HAPE and HACE can occur during high Himalayan trips such as the Everest Base Camp Trek, Everest Three High Passes Trek, and Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek. But, since the trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill hiking reaches the maximum altitude of 3,210 m/10,531 ft, it is safe for altitude.

Beginning from Nayapul, the Annapurna trekking route is a gradual ascent to Ghorepani and Poon Hill. The hiking trail itself allows step-by-step elevation gain and makes sure adventurers on the Annapurna Panorama Trekking adjust to the alpine Himalayan surroundings naturally. The chances of symptoms of altitude sickness getting severe are low, and the 9-day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek itinerary from Mountain Monarch further includes trip preparation days in the Kathmandu Valley and balanced hiking overall, offering you flexibility.

Additional Info

When to go for the Annapurna Panorama Trek?

While the Himalayan trek to see the mind-blowing sunrise over the Annapurna ranges, Annapurna Panorama Trekking, is doable throughout the year, spring and autumn stand out as the optimal times of the year. In comparison to summer/monsoon, spring and autumn are characterized by moderate temperatures, favorable Himalayan weather, and dry trekking trail conditions, and in spring, the fresh bloom of rhododendron welcomes you throughout the trekking route.

In winter, cold temperatures add an extra layer to preparation and packing. Therefore, if you are first-timers and looking forward to a seamless adventure without extra logistical challenges like those during summer and winter, spring and autumn, spanning from March to May and September to November, are the right times to go for it. For someone seeking solitude and a crowd-free experience, a summer or winter trek is also feasible. Bookings are open for 2026 and 2027 at Mountain Monarch.

Do you need permits for the Annapurna Panorama trekking in Nepal?

Yes, since the trekking journey to reach Ghorepani and Poon Hill, the Annapurna Panorama Trek, is through the Annapurna Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas of Nepal, trekkers need at least two permits. These permits are the standard Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. Issued by the offices of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN), permits allow you to get access to national parks and conservation areas.

Trekking and other outdoor adventures inside Nepal's national parks, conservation areas, and restricted areas without a permit and guide are illegal. Intended to promote sustainable tourism, permit fees are used for maintaining the trail condition, conserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem, and uplifting the living standard of native Himalayans by creating job opportunities; therefore, permits and guides are required for a legitimate trekking journey in Nepal, including for the Annapurna Panorama Trekking in the Annapurna Himalayas.

What is the highest point of the Annapurna Panorama Trip to see the Annapurna ranges?

As mentioned before, the Annapurna Panorama Trek is a mid-altitude trek in the Annapurna Himalayas. The maximum altitude reached during the trip to see the Annapurna ranges is 3,210 m above sea level. The lofty hills present you with the marvelous sunrise views of the surrounding mountain ranges, including Annapurna I (8,091 m) above sea level, the 10th highest mountain in the world.

In serenity far away from modern chaos, the sense of adventure is immense. Added into the cultural dimension by the true hospitality of Himalayan locals, Annapurna Panorama Hiking is among the once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to experience Nepal’s tranquil Annapurna hills and Himalayas, dipped in culture. The journey is more of a cultural tour than a high-altitude trekking and climbing experience to gain an insight into the life that flourished in the lap of the Annapurna mountain range, and plan accordingly.

How to prepare for trekking to Ghorepani Poon Hill?

Unlike for high-altitude treks and climbs in Nepal, such as the Manaslu Circuit Trek, the Annapurna Circuit Trek, the Everest Circuit Trek, the Everest Three High Passes Trek, and the standard Everest Base Camp Trek, taking you 5,000 m above sea level, for Annapurna Panorama Hiking (the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking), hardcore physical and mental conditioning might not be necessary.

There is no doubt that the fitter you are, the smoother the journey becomes; therefore, it is good to keep yourself physically fit and mentally flexible for basic living conditions. Consider cardiovascular exercises and muscle-strengthening training (upper body, core, and legs), and to get used to remote and high-altitude trekking and climbing requirements, it is good to go for multi-day hiking to nearby local terrains.
